OUR STORY
Jamye and Luis Carlos first met in September 2021, sitting through their very first law school class at the University of Chicago, Torts with Professor Levmore. While they were friendly in the classroom, often swapping supportive smiles after tough cold calls, their real story didn’t start until the following summer. In a total stroke of luck, they realized they were interning at law firms directly across the street from one another in Manhattan after bumping into each other on the sidewalk on their way to lunch. They eventually met up on a rooftop overlooking the skyline, where they talked for hours and solidified a fast friendship.
The universe, however, wasn't done bringing them together. Not long after, they had a second chance encounter at the Fulton Street station — the same stop they still take to work together today. As the 4 train pulled off, Jamye lost her balance and Luis Carlos caught her; in that "movie moment," everything clicked. They spent the rest of that summer falling in love and made things official soon after returning to Chicago for their second year of law school.
Since then, they have conquered the bar exam, traveled the world and built a life in the city where they first fell in love. Through every milestone, they’ve remained each other’s biggest fans and favorite source of laughter. Jamye and Luis Carlos are so excited to start this next chapter and feel incredibly lucky to share their wedding day with the family and friends who mean the world to them.
NUESTRA HISTÓRIA
Jamye y Luis Carlos se conocieron en septiembre de 2021, durante su primera clase en la facultad de derecho de la Universidad de Chicago: Responsabilidad Civil (Torts) con el profesor Levmore. Aunque en el salón de clases mantenían una relación cordial y solían intercambiar sonrisas de apoyo tras las exigentes preguntas del profesor, su verdadera historia no comenzó sino hasta el verano siguiente. En un golpe de suerte total, descubrieron que estaban realizando sus pasantías en firmas de abogados situadas una frente a la otra en Manhattan, tras encontrarse inesperadamente en la acera mientras salían a almorzar. Poco después, se citaron en una terraza con vista al horizonte de la ciudad, donde conversaron durante horas y consolidaron una gran amistad.
Sin embargo, el destino aún no terminaba de unirlos. Poco tiempo después, tuvieron un segundo encuentro fortuito en la estación de Fulton Street, la misma parada que hoy en día siguen utilizando juntos para ir al trabajo. Justo cuando el tren de la línea 4 se ponía en marcha, Jamye perdió el equilibrio y Luis la sostuvo; en ese instante, digno de una película, todo cobró sentido. Pasaron el resto de aquel verano enamorándose y formalizaron su relación poco después de regresar a Chicago para su segundo año de derecho.
Desde entonces, han superado juntos el examen de la barra, han viajado por el mundo y han construido una vida en la ciudad donde se enamoraron. En cada etapa, han sido el mayor apoyo del otro y su mejor fuente de alegría. Jamye y Luis se encuentran muy emocionados por comenzar este nuevo capítulo y se sienten profundamente afortunados de compartir el día de su boda con los familiares y amigos que tanto significan para ellos.
